Seventy years ago my parents were married on the Grand Concourse. We want to restore the Concourse as the central linear heart and showpiece of the Bronx-- a place where neighbors meet, people are seen and the world can glimpse an urban corridor of style, comfort, greenery and hope again.
We see public open areas amid private urban density as the key to the city. These public resources must be protected as natural resources of the city. Public infrastructure improvement has priority over private building. Flexibility has precedence over specificity. And all intervention must respect the past while anticipating the future.
New features include Neighborhood Centers at major intersections, the restored Concourse Stroll, infill development, and a five mile green ribbon from river to park-- the Grand Concourse.
