E&E Apartment
New York City
1990
In a wave of expansiveness two apartments were joined into one apartment with a corresponding increase of scale in every area and a sudden panoramic view over the West Village.
The entry confronts a core of building guts which is outlined as a bluestone proscenium with four columns on a slightly shifted grid. A wall of pear arcs through this grid and leads one out to the open living area and views. Piercing the curved wall gives access to more private functions of kitchen and child's room and also allows more discrete views.
Luxe finishes of pear maple, bluestone granite and colored plaster surround and connect all rooms with Morse code messages in tile decorating the bathrooms. Complementary custom furniture also follows the shifted grid and slicing curve modus operandi.
In shift step together curve soft-shoe to the view.
