D&D Apartment
New York City
1986
Two Apartments have been joined, stretching across the entire front of a Fifth Avenue building. The view of Central Park and beyond is all the art required.
A discrete scar separates the former apartments, now living and dining areas. It also knits together the window wall and the interior windowless wall, where positive 'shadow' panels reflect the opposite voids of view.
The organization is straightforward: entry, kitchen, bedrooms, baths, and study all take a back seat to the living/dining room. Cherry, oak, slate, and marble in overlapping squares, nine square, and four square patterns play against the muted gray 'shadow' walls.
