Rural Planned Development
1985
In response to questions from a potential developer, we proposed a model rural growth pattern based on the traditional New England green, square, and roadside.
We suggested a secondary road parallel to the local highway with commercial and community development between. A small, village ‘square’ allows glimpses from the road to the larger ‘green’ beyond. Residential construction along the green would maintain a village density. Slightly larger plots would line the secondary access road, and still larger parcels would be set back beyond the far edge of the green.
Suggested building types would reflect various vernacular styles with a twist.
