Smetana Renovations

1983

Serious cosmetic surgery was performed on this existing garage, pool, and neo-colonial house. The garage re-emerged as a pool pavilion and playhouse. The vinyl in-ground pool was obscured from direct view by a landscape maze of hedges. Canvas yard curtains add further discretion.

The house is transformed into a true shingle style beach house by the addition of an entry porch, two back porches, five dormers, and a tented tower with distant water views. The sunroom reawoke with a new rooftop deck and a crennellated parapet. Interior remodellings add a breakfast room (between the porches) and additional bath and bedroom improvements.

The final construction stage (tower and rear porch addtions) was stalled by a sea change in code and financing, and still awaits the knife.
