Manhattan Eruptus

1983
(with Ben Benedict)

Under the banner of the Accademia Mezzanote, twelve groups of young architects gathered to exchange ideas about the future of Manhattan. It was seen as an opportunity to do large scale free-thinking about the city and architecture.

BumpZoid was awarded Zone VI, the keyed area on the island drawing. Zone VI is further enlarged upon in the site plan (drawn by William Petrone). Both depict our version of a slightly altered New York.

It is our hope that these discrete suggestions, small provocations and optimistic visions will in some way take root. And, after years of growth and change, will erupt like the crocus in spring from the rich bed that is Manhattan.
